After meeting at Catania Airport we boarded our bus & drove the one hour to our first hotel, the Baia Taormina.
We had an hour to freshen-up before heading into town, on our large bus then with a small shuttle into the heart of the town's narrow streets.
A short walk took us to our first destination, the Greek Theatre. The theatre was quieter than usual because of a light rain, but we were still able to enjoy great views - complete with a rainbow ending above our hotel in the distance! Next we strolled through the town, stopping to admire some of the mixed architectural styles & historic periods as well as to note possible restaurants for the next couple of days. As darkness fell there were superb views over Giardini Naxos.
Our restaurant this evening was the excellent Viccolo Stretto. We enjoyed a wonderful four course menu of traditional Sicilian dishes with a modern flair, accompanied by excellent local wines.
We ended our day back at our hotel after our return shuttle bus ride. Everyone was tired but happy after a great start to our adventure.
