October 6th: Day Trip to Piazza Armerina & Agrigento

Our destinations today were Piazza Armerina & Agrigento as we took a full-day trip from Siracusa to explore Sicily's interior.
Piazza Armerina, in the very heart of the island, is the location of the Villa Romana del Casale, a Roman villa or hunting lodge that was buried under a landslide & whose mosaic floors - over 37,000 square feet - are incredibly well preserved.
Agrigento, on Sicily's southern coast, was a major Greek city, once an ally of Siracusa.  It's religious buildings were constructed along a low ridge, below the city (thus known as the Valley of the Temples) & overlooking the sea.  Upon arrival we met our local guide Enzo for a walking tour of this incredible site.
We didn't get back to our hotel until 7:30pm so it was a long day, but definitely a worthwhile day of visits that were enjoyed by all.
